The special edition Mono no aware was born from the meeting and support of two families of entrepreneurs deeply linked to the Franciacorta area and the fruits that derive from its processing. The Mazzocchi family, in the nineteenth century, operated in the sericulture sector and, with the same passion and dedication, the Caruna family has been involved in the agricultural and wine sector for years.
Pompeo Mazzocchi during his fifteen expeditions to Japan to purchase silkworm seeds was fascinated by the habits, customs and traditional artistic production of the population; so much so that he purchased numerous works which he exhibited in his home in Coccaglio, creating an extremely heterogeneous collection. The oriental art collection was then inherited by his son Cesare Mazzocchi, who chose to donate it to the local community allowing the creation of the Museum of Oriental Art - Mazzocchi Collection in Coccaglio.
A legacy passed down, therefore, like that which is transferred from generation to generation in the Caruna family.
The connection between Coccaglio and the Land of the Rising Sun, already established by the presence of the Museum, is sealed through this bottle whose name refers to the Japanese concept of mono no aware, that is, deep empathy towards the course of nature and appreciation of the small pleasures of life, from the vision of a flower blooming for example. Sharing this concept leads to a feeling of happy melancholy, this is because one comes to have an aesthetic vision of time that passes irreversibly with full awareness that this acts inexorably on nature and man.
Equal happy melancholy, with a Western twist, is felt in observing the commitment necessary for the production of a bottle of wine and at the same time the beauty that derives from it.
The moment that best describes the mono no aware it's thehanami, or the moment during which you admire the cherry blossoms blooming and very quickly losing their petals. What materializes is a profound joy and beauty deriving from nature which, however, is destined to end soon. Even today it is customary to celebrate thehanami, but in particular in the past it was customary to try a game that involved composing a poem, before fishing with a bamboo net some saucers that flowed along the river, pouring in the sake and drinking. The river symbolizes the passage of time and in the same way the river that flows near the Caruna winery is a daily reminder of the power and beauty of nature and how important it is to appreciate these values.
A further connection between the wine produced and oriental culture is symbolized by the kintsugi, the restoration and repair technique through gold that gives new life and new value to objects. In the same way, even at the time of the birth of this winery, the idea of recovering and making what was grown and then harvested stronger and more precious was inspiring, leading to the creation of a quality product.
All this is what makes wine and its production approachable to Japanese culture.
It is well known that where there is wine there is also conviviality, so it is hoped that bringing a wine like that of this edition to the table Mono no aware can lead to dialogues that are a source of exchange of different traditions and cultures and also conversations on unusual and profound topics.
